Well hello....its me Laura B! I just wanted to open the door of my studio and welcome you to my world, sit back, relax and read on to find out more about my journey.
And the road here has been varied but all with a consistent theme ....I guess it started as a youngster always wanting to be different from the crowd. One of my earliest memories, going to a fancy dress party dressed in a smock, wearing a beret, a (very itchy) false moustache and holding a paint palette and a brush. So yeah, totally different to all the fairies and princesses!! Fast forward, ahem a few years... art college, theatre and costume design, costume making, commercial photography styling and make-up, TV set design and then a natural step into the world of interiors.
Never long without a pencil or paint brush in hand, being creative is a fundamental part of life. Love colour, love texture, the new, the old, the modern and the traditional - it all works together or at least it can.
Continuing on from the end of Jolaru, I find myself here with a fresh new view of the horizon, and I like the look of it.
With the easing of lockdown I hope to build momentum as people gain confidence and we all journey towards a new beginning of sorts. I'm hoping this time has given us all the space to reflect and think about how we can improve the way we live and how we spend our time here.
The studio is almost ready to open and although the preparation of which hasn't been without it's challenges the finished result is going to be a pleasing one.
Soon I'll be running workshops in furniture painting and effects using the wonderful Fusion Mineral Paint and products. We'll have some visiting experts talking gilding and more specialist finishes. There has been a lot of interest in the lampshade making, a variety of art classes from abstract and acrylics to pastels and figure drawing, maybe even a basic sewing class.
All hugely exciting!!
